Marina Square Mall to Close for Major Revamp
Singapore's Marina Square shopping centre will close next March for a redevelopment into a 'hyper-mixed complex'.

Singapore's Marina Square shopping centre will close on March 31 next year for a major redevelopment. Operator Singapore Land plans to transform the site into a 'hyper-mixed complex' by 2031.
The four-storey retail mall will be comprehensively reimagined as the connected heart of a new precinct. The asset enhancement will cover more than 76,000 square meters of gross floor area.
A New Mixed-Use Ecosystem
The project will introduce three new towers to the Marina Bay site. These will contain a mix of residential, hospitality, and office spaces. The goal is to create an integrated ecosystem where people can live, work, and stay.
Jonathan Eu, CEO of Singapore Land, explained the strategy. "By adding residences, serviced apartments and workplaces alongside the existing hotels and repositioning the mall around experience-led retail, sports, wellness and community, we are creating a new ecosystem where people can live, work, stay and connect," he said.
Enhanced Retail and Tenant Mix
The revamped mall will feature a broader mix of food and beverage, sports, wellness, and lifestyle concepts. It will also include landscaped and pet-friendly environments. The operator aims for the space to support activity across different times of day, serving office workers, residents, hotel guests, and visitors.
Movement across the site will be simplified through direct roofscape access from existing hotels and the new towers. This design is intended to let Marina Square function as both a destination and an intuitive route through the wider development.
Project Components and Timeline
The redevelopment will add several new components to the Marina Square precinct. The three existing hotels on the site will remain fully operational during the construction period.
| Component | Key Details |
|---|---|
| Hotel | 304 keys |
| Serviced Apartments | 260 keys |
| Luxury Residences | 204 large-format homes |
| Premium Grade A Offices | Approximately 13,000sqm of lettable space |
Singapore Land stated it will continue events and activities to maintain mall visibility and support retail sales leading up to the closure. The operator sees the project as responding to Marina Bay's next phase of growth. Eu stated the opportunity is to reimagine Marina Square as a more connected and compelling destination.
The mall's closure marks the start of this significant transformation. The broader precinct will eventually incorporate public parks, arts and cultural spaces, and sports and wellness facilities alongside the retail core.
