PepsiCo targets top-10 global market status for India
PepsiCo plans to invest Rs 5,700 crore by 2030 to make India one of its top ten global markets, with a new Rs 778 crore Assam plant marking its latest

PepsiCo expects India to become one of its top ten global markets in the coming years. The company's India & South Asia CEO, Jagrut Kotecha, announced this vision on Thursday, backed by a planned investment of around Rs 5,700 crore by 2030 to scale up manufacturing and regional operations.
Kotecha called India one of PepsiCo's most promising markets globally. He attributed the bullish outlook to low per capita consumption of packaged goods compared to other countries.
Recent and Planned Manufacturing Investments
The company has just inaugurated its fifth food manufacturing plant in Nalbari, Assam, with an investment of Rs 778 crore. This 44.2-acre facility follows the opening of a concentrate plant in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, earlier this year.
PepsiCo is also setting up a new plant in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, to widen its presence in south India. Kotecha stated that all new capacity is intended for the domestic market, reinforcing an "In India, For India" strategy.
Market Position and Financials
India is currently one of PepsiCo's top 13 anchor markets worldwide. The source provides the following financial figures for the company's operations in the country:
| Entity | Metric | Amount (in crore rupees) |
|---|---|---|
| PepsiCo India | Turnover (2025) | 9,789 |
| Varun Beverages (franchise bottler) | Standalone revenue (mainly India) | 15,070.7 |
Kotecha declined to comment on specific business expectations for the second half of 2026. He reiterated that the company remains very bullish on India's long-term prospects.
Regional Strategy and Domestic Focus
PepsiCo's expansion plan includes catering to regional tastes and preferences across India. The company stated its approach "will not be uniform across the country" and that it will work with different geographic zones based on their taste profiles.
While some exports to neighbouring markets like Bhutan and Sri Lanka will continue, the primary focus will remain on serving the domestic Indian consumer. Kotecha emphasized that the manufacturing footprint is designed to "make in India, for India, by Indians."
Impact of the New Assam Plant
The new Nalbari plant has created 700 direct and indirect jobs. PepsiCo said it is expected to accelerate growth for local MSMEs and ancillary industries.
The facility will strengthen the agricultural ecosystem in Assam by sourcing chip-grade potatoes. The company estimates it will support over 5,000 farmers through sustainable farming practices and generate demand for approximately 60,000 tonnes of cold storage capacity in the coming years.
