Television manufacturer Videotex has received Google TV ODM certification, aiming to grow its revenue to ₹800 crore...

Videotex, an original design manufacturer (ODM) of televisions, has been certified to build Google TV-powered smart TVs. Director Arjun Bajaj told PTI this certification is expected to help grow the company's revenue from its ODM business to ₹800 crore over the next two to three years, from a current turnover of ₹450 crore.

The Noida-based company, which has operated in India's TV manufacturing sector for over 40 years, plans to use the license to produce Google TVs for other brands on a white-label basis. Bajaj called the approval a "very big deal," stating it will enable local and regional TV brands to source from an Indian partner instead of relying on Chinese suppliers. Videotex is already in discussions with several brands and expects to onboard a handful by year-end.

Portfolio and Market Position

Videotex currently holds a leading position in India's WebOS television market, having worked with LG's WebOS ecosystem since 2021. It also struck a partnership with Samsung's Tizen OS last year. The Google TV certification fills a gap in the company's smart TV portfolio. Currently, only a few other companies like Dixon Technologies, Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL), and Jaina Group hold similar ODM certification.

Production Capacity and Expansion

The company has an installed annual production capacity of 2.2 million TV units. It operates two research and development centres, one in India and another in China, which serves as a global centre. Bajaj said the company is considering capacity expansion plans, likely to be finalized in the coming months.

Beyond televisions, Videotex plans to enter the large appliances segment. The first category is expected to enter mass production by the end of this year, though Bajaj did not disclose which appliance category it will be.

Consumer Trends and Future Outlook

Bajaj noted a consumer shift towards larger screen sizes, specifically 43-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch televisions. He linked this trend partly to rising memory chip prices increasing costs across electronics. "Next year is going to be a very, very strong year for bigger size and the 4K market," he said.

The company is also studying export opportunities. Bajaj cited government initiatives and trade discussions with neighbouring and other countries as factors that could open up overseas markets once India's local component ecosystem matures further.
