Tata Chemicals Ltd announced on Saturday that its US subsidiary has acquired major North American soda ash customer contracts. The deal, worth over 500,000 metric tonnes for supply from September 2026 through December 2028, was secured through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding.

Tata Chemicals North America Inc (TCNA) was declared the successful bidder for assets of Searles Valley Minerals Inc (SVM) USA. The transaction involves an Assignment and Assumption Agreement to take over specific soda ash customer contracts and related commercial rights.

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware has approved the move. The cash consideration is $21.16 million. The deal remains subject to standard closing conditions outlined in the agreement.

Financial and Strategic Impact

These newly acquired contracts are expected to bring in revenues exceeding $110 million over their duration. According to a company statement, this secures significant long-term demand in a key market.

R Mukundan, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Chemicals Ltd, framed the acquisition as a strategic opportunity. He said it strengthens the company's presence in the North American soda ash market and expands its customer base. The deal enhances the portfolio of long-term customer relationships, Mukundan stated. It also improves demand visibility.

He added that the transaction reinforces the company's commitment to reliable supply and service. "It is aligned with our strategy of driving profitable growth and creating sustainable value for all stakeholders," Mukundan said.

The acquisition provides a concrete volume of secured business for the coming years. It locks in supply commitments stretching into late 2028.
