Amazon, Meesho Ramp Up Festive Season Hiring
Amazon and Meesho are creating hundreds of thousands of seasonal jobs in India to handle festive season demand.

Amazon India is creating a large number of temporary positions across its operations network. The e-commerce giant announced the seasonal hiring push on Wednesday to support its e-commerce and quick-commerce businesses ahead of the holiday rush.
Meesho expects to generate more than one million seasonal job opportunities. The Bengaluru-based marketplace announced last month that it anticipates creating over 10 lakh roles across its seller and logistics ecosystem to meet holiday demand.
Hiring Details and Geographic Spread
Amazon's seasonal positions are spread across 400 cities in India. The opportunities span large metros as well as tier 2 and 3 cities like Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem, and Gorakhpur. The company stated it has created opportunities for thousands of women and associates with disabilities in its network.
New associates will join Amazon's existing pan-India operations network. Their roles will involve picking, packing, shipping, and delivering customer orders. Most of these associates have already been onboarded to prepare for the upcoming period, according to the company.
Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations for Amazon India, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkiye, commented on the hiring. "This expanded workforce will help us strengthen our fulfillment and logistics capabilities and ensure we can handle the holiday season seamlessly," he said. Singh added that many associates continue with Amazon after the holiday period or return to work year after year.
Meesho's Projected Job Creation
Meesho's forecast breaks down into specific areas within its ecosystem. The company expects to generate a significant number of jobs through its seller network. It anticipates a further large number of opportunities in its logistics operations.
The e-commerce marketplace termed the holiday season an important period for businesses across its ecosystem. In a statement, Meesho said, "This year, we expect to enable over 10 lakh seasonal job opportunities." The company noted that a substantial number of sellers are expected to hire seasonal workers for roles in packaging, manufacturing, production, warehousing, and inventory management as they build inventory and expand their holiday collections.
Broader Holiday Season Hiring Trends
The holiday period acts as a major growth driver for e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms. Consumer spending, order volumes, and transaction values typically rise during this time. Demand increases across categories including electronics, fashion, beauty, gifts, groceries, and home essentials. Attractive holiday offers and a preference for convenience further encourage online shopping, according to a PTI report.
PTI reported last month that the holiday season is likely to create a considerable number of temporary jobs overall. E-commerce, logistics, quick commerce, organised retail, and BFSI are emerging as the key sectors driving this hiring. A large portion of the workforce demand is expected to come from tier II and tier III cities, including Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, and Coimbatore.
Separately, the TeamLease Festive Season Workforce Report 2026 projected that South India will account for 36.3 percent of holiday frontline job opportunities this year. As the holiday shopping rush gathers pace, the surge in hiring is set to provide a significant boost to employment opportunities across e-commerce, logistics, and related sectors.
