Investor allocation and market response
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) was a cornerstone investor, allocated 34.29 million shares for a total consideration of £67.2 million. This allocation represents its full commitment under its cornerstone investment agreement. The company said the over-subscription of the offering shows UK market appetite for high-quality investable assets. In early conditional trading, shares touched about £2.00 before easing to around £1.94.
Strategic context and ownership
The listing builds on the Bharti Group's long-term strategic ties to the UK market. In 2019, Airtel Africa was listed in London to leverage the UK's established investor base. Founder Sunil Bharti Mittal said the same conditions made London the obvious choice for this new listing in 2026. He added that the listing builds on Bharti's significant record of long-term interests in the UK, which includes a strategic stake in BT announced in 2024, a shareholding in Eutelsat alongside the UK Government, and hospitality assets like the Scottish resort Gleneagles.
Bharti Airtel owns a 79.2 per cent stake in Airtel Africa, which in turn owns 77.85 per cent of Airtel Money. This gives Bharti Airtel an indirect economic interest of about 61.6 per cent in the newly listed fintech.
Leadership commentary and business outlook
Chief Executive Officer Ian Ferrao described the London listing as a significant milestone and a new chapter for the business. He said the company grew by addressing the need for simpler and more accessible financial services across Africa. Ferrao stated that as a listed company, Airtel Money will remain focused on building Africa’s leading digital financial services platform to connect more people and businesses to the formal financial system. He said investor participation reflected confidence in its business model and long-term growth prospects.
The company said the listing would support its next phase of growth as it seeks to expand access to digital financial services across the continent. Following admission, the company and selling shareholders will be subject to a 180-day lock-up period restricting share disposals. Directors of Airtel Money will be subject to a 365-day lock-up period, subject to specified exceptions and waiver provisions.
Unconditional dealings in Airtel Money shares are expected to begin at 8:00 a.m. on October 14, 2026, following admission to the FCA's Official List and LSE's Main Market.
